Jorge Posada tried to make it as simple as possible.

If he can rehab his injured shoulder and find himself ready to hit, he'll put off the surgery he now knows is required.

If not, he'll have it now.

Of course, it's not that simple for Posada or the Yankees—and their recent hot streak could complicate matters further.

With the news that Posada will require surgery on his throwing shoulder—but might be able to postpone it by throwing less either at first base or designated hitter—comes the knowledge he might miss more than this season.

With the Yankees having won six in a row and starting to emerge as seemingly legitimate playoff contenders, Posada said, "It's about the team."
